Appointment of the Director-General by the FAO Conference in 2011
At its Thirty-seventh session to be held in Rome from 25 June to 2 July 2011, the Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will appoint the Director-General of FAO for the period 1 January 2012 to 31 July 2015.
In December 2009, FAO Members were informed, through Circular State Letter, that nominations for the office of Director-General are receivable from 1 February 2010 to 31 January 2011.
In accordance with the General Rules of the Organization, and as decided by the Council of FAO, nominations for the office of Director-General must be submitted by FAO Member Nations to the Secretary-General of the Conference and Council of FAO, who in turn must circulate them to all FAO Members one week after the period in which nominations are receivable.
The functions of the Director-General of FAO are described in the Basic Texts of the Organization, in particular Rule XXXVII of the General Rules of the Organization.
By the above mentioned deadline, nominations for the post of Director-General of FAO are to be made exclusively by FAO Member Nations to the Secretary-General of the Conference and Council of FAO.
